What a sensational day it was to be out on the trails, soaking up the sunshine and scenery of Smith's Gully in the Yarra Valley for Race 2 of The Trail Running Series presented by The North Face.
There was a chill in the air, but with the HIIT Factory warmups and famous Rob Roy Hill Climb to get things started – there wasn’t much you could complain about.
Hundreds of trail runners raced and weaved over the 7km, 13km and 18km courses, past kangaroos and green countryside. A simply beautiful backdrop for a Sunday morning run in the winter sun.
Congratulations to all our place-getters and well done to everyone who raced today – whether you beat your time or enjoyed the ride - we hope you had a blast on the trails, and the exhilaration lasts through to the next one – Race 3 at Silvan!
There were so many great moments captured on the day - thanks to Matt Hull from The Matt Image,
the Supersport Images crew, Vlogger Chris Furlong and Yarra Ranges Life TV.

The Trail Running Series conducted by renowned event managers Rapid Ascent features a mix of five short distance trail runs at a range of beautiful wilderness locations all within an hour’s drive of Melbourne from June to October.
The Series returns for an eighth year in 2018 with a new Saturday night race, some exciting course tweaks, new competitions and a whole lot more great wilderness running.
The races attract first timers through to elite runners who get a real thrill from trail running by racing through valleys lined with tree ferns, weaving through towering gum trees and bounding along flowing trails beside rivers, creeks, beaches and lookouts.
Each event features a short course race that varies in length between 5km and 7km, a medium course race of between 10km and 15km and a long course race that starts at 15km and extends to 23km at its longest. Competitors can enter all races or choose just the races that suit them.
The 2018 Series launches with Race 1 at Westerfolds Park, Templestowe in June, then moves to Smiths Gully in the Yarra Valley in July for Race 2.
Race 3 takes place at Silvan in the Dandenongs in August, which also includes a 2.2km Kids Run adding even more fun to this popular event – the highlight of the series for many runners.
Race 4 at Anglesea on the Surf Coast in September follows on from the action of the Surf Coast Century 100km Ultra Marathon of the day before, forming a real festival weekend of trail running, complete with a 1.9km Kids Run.
The Series concludes in October where runners light up the flowing inner city trails beside the Yarra for the thrilling night race series finale, finishing with a massive after party at the new location of Yarra Bend on Saturday night.
Further details on The Trail Running Series can be found at the event website at www.TrailRunningSeries.com.au with entries now open for these five popular events.
