Entries open today for Australia’s most popular trail running series – the 2016 HOKA ONE ONE Trail Running Series that takes place around Melbourne between June and September.
Formally called the Salomon Trail Running Series, The Series has undergone a facelift and revitalisation for 2016 that sees HOKA ONE ONE forming a partnership with event managers Rapid Ascent in what is sure to be a popular move for runners and this reputable running brand.
Having started 6 years ago, The Series revitalised trail running in Australia with its welcoming race atmosphere, mix of short distance races and range of accessible wilderness locations that really brought trail running to the masses. These steps have seen each race in the series sell out ahead of time with 1,500 runners with more than 50% of all runners being women, creating a great running experience for runners of all abilities.
The 2016 HOKA ONE ONE Trail Running Series is sure to be just as popular as trail running continues to grow and more and more runners look for a new thrill compared to pounding the pavement along footpaths and roads.
The Series has also been expanded for 2016 to now include 5 races between early June and late September, including a new night race that will see all runners carrying a head torch to illuminate the trails along the Yarra River on Friday 23rd September.
“We are really excited about the new night race,” says event manager Sam Maffett, “running at night adds a completely new dimension to trail running and really is a lot of fun. The Series has brought trail running into the lives of so many new people over the years and we hope the incorporation of a night race will again add something new to peoples’ running experiences so they love running at night as well!”
The other events in The Series remain largely unchanged with race 1 taking place at Studley Park, race 2 at Plenty Gorge, Race 3 at Silvan, race 4 at Anglesea on the Surf Coast before the new series finale back at Studley Park in Kew.
Each event includes a short course race that varies in length between 5km and 7km, a medium course race of between 10km and 15km and a long course race that starts at 15km and extends to 23km at its longest. Competitors can enter all races and become a ‘gold runner’ or they can enter just the races that suit them.
HOKA ONE ONE are a very well renowned trail running brand with great awareness and uptake in North America and Europe, and a growing reputation and following amongst core trail runners in Australia.
“We are honoured to partner with Rapid Ascent and Australia’s trail runners through our new involvement with the HOKA ONE ONE Trail Running Series. The passion you all share for this series is matched equally by our passion for this magnificent sport and respect for the people who run in them,” says Ian Thomas from HOKA ONE ONE Australia. “You’ll find our shoes equally at home on the front runners going long through to newcomers racing 5km for the first time. If you value comfort, performance and stability then we encourage you to check out our footwear at any good retailer.”
