Other appropriate races
Although there is only one designated ‘cross country’ MTB race to be held as part of the 2018 Shimano Bike Buller Festival, there are other races under the Gravity banner that are well within the reach of cross-country riders that we encourage you to consider as well.
Not all our gravity races are ‘hard core’ with gnarly jumps and technical sections and the following 2 races are highly recommended for those who like smoother trails or who like to pedal as well:
The SPD Mt Buller Super-D
2:00pm – 4:00pm Sunday (approx)
The Super-D is a 12km race from the top of Mt Buller at Baldy, to the bottom at Mirimbah including the full length of the phenomenally popular Delatite River Trail. This 12km race descends over 1,100 pretty much on fast flowing, non-technical single track the whole way. There are some short climbs and flatter sections that require some pedalling and but this is truly a very smile inducing race that all ‘cross-country’ riders will truly love. (Did we mention that it finishes in the middle of a massive food, wine and live music festival at the bottm…?!)

The XTR Gravity Enduro
8:30am – 3:00pm Sunday (approx)
The Gravity Enduro is a race over a 30km course that involves racing done the downhill sections and then cruising along the climbs and connecting sections that are untimed. So there is plenty of pedalling required its just that your time climbing uphill does not count.
The course is quite similar to the 40km Stonefly / Corn Hill Circuit race on Saturday and in the most part is not overly technical or rough and well suited to cross-country styel riders.

If you are still looking for things to do then there is a whole mountain of trails you can ride can enjoy that don’t necessarily involve racing. Mt Buller is famous for its 40km ‘Epic Trail’ that is a magnificent ride on awesome single track. Or look further afield and ride to Craig’s Hut, or down to the Howqua or elsewhere…
So although there is only one designated ‘cross-country’ race, there are plenty of other options and we really encourage you to come and be part of the Shimano Bike Buller Festival.
